We are looking for a Systems Engineer for the Lab System Engineering section within the Downstream Systems department, R&D in Uppsala. The Downstream Systems department is part of the Downstream Hardware and Consumables organization, which develops instruments and software for liquid chromatography (ÄKTA systems and UNICORN) to support customer workflows in the Bioprocess area. Within the organization, there are many different complementary competencies such as mechanics, electronics, software, systems, and applications. Development is driven in cross-functional project teams where we develop products for the Life Sciences industry and academia.
As a Systems Engineer with us, you will primarily work on product development in one of our development projects. You have an understanding of our customers and their needs, and contribute in various parts of the development; from specifying customer needs, developing test and verification plans and test procedures, supporting the design teams in understanding customer needs, to performing verification and validation of instruments and, in some cases, software. It is a plus if you have knowledge of ÄKTA products and if you have used them together with UNICORN to some extent yourself.
The position reports to the Senior Manager, ÄKTA System Engineering and is part of the System Engineering based in Uppsala and will be a fully on-site role at our site in Uppsala.
Your main responsibilities:
- Build a deep understanding of our customers’ operations and needs, and translate these into clear and thoughtful system solutions.
- Work as an integrated part of a cross-functional team where you plan, prioritize, and deliver according to shared goals and commitments.
- Create user and system requirements for hardware/software and procedures for how they should be verified.
- Plan, execute, and document verification and validation activities for system and subsystem requirements.
- Collaborate closely with and support hardware and software developers throughout the system development process.
- Lead product development activities in various forums and projects.
- Identify, analyze, and solve technical problems of a troubleshooting nature in both projects and line operations.
- Actively contribute to continuous improvements of working methods, methods, and processes together with colleagues and other functions.
Your profile:
- MSc or BSc in a relevant Life Science discipline, such as molecular biotechnology, chemical engineering, or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of work experience from a similar role within the Life Science industry.
- Experience in leading and coordinating activities, for example in project form.
- Good theoretical knowledge and preferably practical experience of protein purification and related applications.
- You have a strong user focus and a genuine interest in working with requirements specification as well as practical, hands-on verification activities.
- You are fluent in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
We hope you recognize yourself in the description of a structured and analytical person who enjoys creating order even in complex technical contexts. You are a team player who collaborates naturally with others, while also having the ability to work independently and take responsibility for your own deliveries and coordination. You communicate clearly and pedagogically, both in writing and verbally, and have an easy time adapting your message to different audiences – from technical specialists to other stakeholders. You are motivated by solving problems, improving working methods, and contributing to developing products that make a real difference for the user.
